A Bohemian-Inspired 16th Birthday Party

Birthday celebrations are always a big deal in my book, but for my triplet’s sweet 16th we knew we wanted a truly unforgettable event. Of course, pulling off such a celebration is easier said than done, but thanks to the incredibly talented Jessica of Love Detailed Events, every aspect came together seamlessly. She worked to bring our entire vision to life, and I’m thrilled to share a glimpse into the day with images and video captured by Mustard Seed Photography and Cakewalk Films.

So without further adieu, A Bohemian-Inspired 16th Birthday Party for Lauren, Austin, and Zachary.

THE VENUE

Finding just the right venue is a natural starting point of any party planning process, but especially for a Sixteenth Birthday. First and foremost, we wanted a site that could accommodate newly driving teens, but we were also looking for a venue that offered indoor and outdoor space and worked as a beautiful blank slate for our design ideas. Noah’s Event Venue in Sugar Land, Texas checked every box, and we couldn’t have been happier.

THE INVITATIONS

From the second I locked eyes with Papel & Co’s Instagram feed, I knew we’d officially found our invitation designer. Natalia and the Papel & Co. team began by creating a custom dream catcher logo, which was carried throughout each aspect of the event design - from napkins to party favor cards to thank you cards, and more. Along with the logo, they created an amazing save-the-date, giving guests their first hint of the bohemian theme, plus the invitation suite which included a custom designed paper bundle topped with a Palo Santo incense stick.

Papel & Co. also helped us design the welcome signage, product description cards for our desserts, timeline sign, party favor cards, and thank you cards - each of which we wholeheartedly loved.

THE FLORALS + DECOR

Using a color palette with shades of navy, blush, sage, taupe, and white, our floral designer laid the framework for a party that naturally balanced both masculine and feminine style. Thanks to Flora + Fauna, we had a lot of fun playing with blooms throughout the event design, which brought a natural and organic look to our bohemian inspiration.

A mix of florals and greenery graced nearly every aspect of the party, including the balloon installation, cake, cocktail tables, bar garland, hoop photo display, party favor box display, and of course, the birthday chairs for our guests of honor. We also placed large baskets of pampas grass throughout the space, adding a textural element to the boho vibe.

THE MENU

We wanted a menu made of up teen-friendly food, so we hired Dough Re Mi Pizzeria truck to feed our hungry group of partygoers. The pizza menu included their specialties: The Margherita, The Classic, and The Roni, and needless to say, each one was a total hit. Along with pizza, we set up a fun pretzel station and charcuterie board featuring a selection of fresh fruits, meats, and cheeses for guests to graze on throughout the evening.

Every good party needs a next-level dessert spread, and The Chocolate Llama helped us do exactly that! We served custom designed cookies, handmade marshmallows, sage, navy, and blush-colored macarons, fresh fruit tartlets, three unique dessert shots, and two main birthday cakes.

To complement our menu, the bartender created two signature mocktails for the occasion. “The Flower Child” included lemon juice, raspberry syrup, rose water, sparkling water, and an edible flower, while “The Wanderer” was made with peeled kiwi, blueberries, lime juice, simple syrup, club soda, and mint.

THE FUN

A sixteenth birthday calls for a major dose of fun, so we made sure to include plenty of activities for our teens. Guests loved the flower crown and boutonnieres bar where Flora + Fauna displayed a variety of decorative vases, each holding florals in the signature party color palette. This interactive experience allowed guests to make their own crown using five blooms and a touch of greenery. Likewise, we let the gents adorn their own boutonnieres, including petite blooms with foliage and textural accents.

Nothing says “boho” like succulents, so Jessica at Succulent Bar set up a DIY station to let guests mix and mingle as they created their own boho-chic accessory. Our guests were able to design and take home their tiny plants in the sweetest pint-sized ceramic pots.

To cap off an amazing evening, guests piled into the full-length mirror selfie station to capture some memories. The pros at Oh Snap even created a custom backdrop template for our bohemian theme featuring the party logo and color palette.

THE FAVORS

As the owner of Lauren Ashley Studio, curating the perfect gift boxes for our guests was an absolute highlight. For the ladies, I created the “Bohemian Girl Gift Box,” designed with sweet and feminine flair. Inside each box, ladies were treated to a boho bandeau by Natural Life, a Voluspa glass macaron candle, a Lush massage bar, a Sugarfina pink pineapple candy cube, and a floral bundle of white straw flower, eucalyptus, blue thistle, and tallow berry tied with bleached cotton twine.

The gents received an equally personalized party favor with the custom-designed “Bohemian Gentleman Gift Box.” Their gift experience included a pair of socks by Hotsox, a Voluspa tin candle, a Lush deodorant bar, a custom Sugarfina treat, and the aforementioned floral bundle by Royal Bloom.

Not only did our gift box display create a beautiful focal point, but it was so special to send each guest home with a personalized gift at the end of the evening.
